Learning content: Vocabulary & Study skills

Learning aims:

 1. Grasp some new adjectives.

 2. To use adjectives to describe appearance

 3. To use appropriate adjectives to describe the appearances of boys and girls.

 4. How to look for main points and keywords to understand and remember a passage more easily.

Important & difficult points:

 1. New words : thin, square, handsome. cheerful, height, reader, nervous, uncomfortable, miss, advice

2. Useful phrases: square face, round face, a Grade 8 student

Learning procedures

Vocabulary

Step 1: leading in

Free talk: Say sth. about the appearance of myself.

Activity 1: Say some adjectives about Betty, Max and May in the table.

Step 2: presentation

Activity 2: Say something about Daniel’s classmates. (Do Part A p11)

 

Activity 3: Think of some more adjectives to describe people’s appearance and write down. Let’s see which group can give the most adjectives.

Build/ Height/ Eyes/ Face/ Legs/Hair (The length or the style of hair) /Nose

                                                                        

Activity 4: Use adjectives to describe boys’ and girls’ appearance. (Do Part B)

Step 3: practice

Activity 5: Get some students to come to the front of the classroom to describe their own appearances, try to use as many adjectives they’ve learnt as possible.

Activity 6: A game: Describe your classmates’ appearance, and guess who he/she is.(work in pairs)

Step 4: How to look for main points and keywords to understand and remember a passage more easily when you read sth. We can use the following questions.

 What is it about?                                     When did it happen?

 Who is it about?                                      Why did it happen?

 What happened?                                      How did it happen?

 Where did it happen?

Activity 7: Look for the answers to the questions in the passage and circle them.
